Dossiers on suspects returned
DILI, East Timor: The dossiers of the four people suspected of being involved in the riots here last Dec. 24 were returned to the police yesterday for lack of facts and evidence.
District Prosecutor J.F. Martanto said yesterday the police were given two weeks to complete the dossiers. There had been 12 suspects, but police submitted the dossiers of only four people.
A mob of thousands went on the rampage after welcoming back Bishop of Dili Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo from his trip to Oslo to receive the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize. Alfredo Siga, an army corporal, was killed and a handful of others were injured in the violence. (swe)
