Doping dilemma

From Pikiran Rakyat

The 19th Southeast Asia Games have just ended, with Indonesia the overall winner. Despite the success, we were taken aback by several disagreeable happenings, like the unruly behavior of soccer fans one day before the closing of the Games and the doping case of national cyclist Tonton Susanto from West Java.

We wonder how it could have happened to an athlete of Tonton's stature. He has shown his worth in several events like Lengkawi, in races in the Philippines, Tangkuban Perahu and the National Sports Week.

It would be beneficial if the Indonesian Cycling Association (ISSI) reevaluated the situation. Is the training center insufficient in drumming up confidence in athletes to give their best? Is there another factor, such as lack of communication between athletes and officials?

As a fan of Indonesian cycling, I am convinced that Tonton Susanto's strength and capabilities are required for the sport. I am very concerned by the doping case, and feel it is imperative the ISSI look into the issue.
