Door-to-door gambling in Bogor

BOGOR (JP): Amid sweeping gambling raids conducted by local police in the past couple of weeks, gambling operators have started a new approach of selling coupons directly to the gamblers.

Bogor Police deputy chief Maj. Werry Sudjatmiko said on Tuesday that operators of the gambling activities, locally called judi putih, have shifted to door-to-door services shortly after many of other operators were arrested in raids on their hangouts.

"They now no longer pool in one place but go straight to the customers' houses," officer Werry said.

Gamblers place bets on two or four numbers released every few days by dozens of gambling operators. Gambling is illegal in the country.

Bogor Police have arrested 27 suspects and confiscated gambling coupons and slot machines during separate raids in several areas, including Sindang Barang Jero, Ramayana Market, Bogor Market, Anyar Market and Taman Topi public park, in the past two weeks. (21/edt)
