Don't vote for 'antiwomen' parties

SEMARANG (JP): The Jakarta-based Alliance of Women for Justice and Democracy campaigned yesterday against political parties which do not include the protection of women's rights.

They distributed leaflets urging women to shun the party which was directly involved in the oppression of women over the past 32 years, an obvious reference to Golkar Party.

The alliance said women should support only parties which are committed to the promotion of reform and defense of women's rights.

"Women should shun parties which misuse state facilities, support the New Order regime, amass ill-gotten money and solicit funds from companies that abuse women," the leaflets said.

Meanwhile, about 500 students from various universities took to the streets urging people to vote only for political parties which promote peace. (har)
