Dong Joe Indonesia boasts a success
Shoe manufacturer PT Dong Joe Indonesia was founded in 1988 at an investment of US$4.2 million. Foreign investment totaled 80 percent and construction on the plant began the same year.
The following year, PT Dong Joe Indonesia opened three lines of products and began expansion of its plant in Tangerang. It continued to increase its production, eventually reaching eight separate lines.
The same year it marked an important milestone with its first exports of Reebok brand shoes. The relationship between the two companies flourished. By 1992, the company had become an official business partner of Reebok.
In an endorsement of its fine craftsmanship, PT Dong Joe Indonesia in 1993 received Reebok's highest award for quality and became Reebok's main factory in Indonesia.
In 1996, its total sales were $83 million, $70 million of which was export value. In 1997, sales were projected at $96 million, with $75 million in export value.
The company has more than 6,000 employees, including several Korean consultants, and boasts production capacity of 6,000 pairs of shoes per month.
PT Dong Joe Indonesia is situated on 220,000 square meters, with company buildings covering 45,000 square meters. Worker facilities include a canteen, transportation arrangements to and from work, a cooperative and clinic with basic medical services. There are also plans to build an on-site mosque. It is a member of the Jamsostek worker social welfare scheme and the family planning program.
