Donations for SEA Games

From Neraca

The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) basically supports the SEA games events. As usual, however, the committee is in need of funds. As a result, money is collected, which the public majority has raised objection to because of the amount of the donations and the way they are collected.

YLKI hopes that SEA Games XIX events will be held within the government's budget. We do not need to throw money into its preparation, such as building an ultramodern athletic village and using cars for athletes and officials. Because of this, YLKI feels that it should say the following:

* YLKI questions the constant collection of money through several departments -- Telkom, PLN, PDAM, entertainment centers -- under the pretext of the future SEA Games XIX.

* Donations for SEA Games are voluntary in nature. The public should not be forced to pay up. Departments responsible for collecting fees should respect the public's rights and keep fees within compliance. Collection should not be automatic.

* And if the public has to pay fees, the act should be legally implemented so that the public just pays once, it should not ongoing as it is now.

* This sort of fee is one-sided in nature. This means that the purpose of the fees is not openly disclosed to the public. Use of public funds should be audited by a public accountant, which should be published to prevent misuse of these funds.
