Donation from expatriate

I am writing this open letter as a German expatriate who has lived in Indonesia for 15 months. During this time I have already experienced the good and the bad times.

Every morning I read in your newspaper about so many people who are suffering and cannot feed their families due to the high prices of staple foods.

How can this happen in a country like Indonesia, which is supposed to be rich in natural resources? What has happened to the millions of tons of rice donations this country received as foreign aid, which were reportedly distributed to the poor? My wife and I feel very sorry about this situation and as Christians we feel obliged to share some of the money we have earned in this country with those who are really suffering.

That's why we have decided to donate Rp 5.000.000 to an organization who can guarantee to send this money for food to those who need it most. We know that this is just a small amount considering the 70 million people who are suffering in this country, but we are not rich and we just want to set a sign.

At the same time we would like to call on all expatriates who live in this wonderful country and who are lucky enough to earn their money here, to follow our example by helping those who need our help most.

This is not only a matter for the government but also for all local Indonesians who can afford to donate a few hundred thousand rupiah to the poor during these hard times Indonesia is going through.

Thank you very much for your kind assistance and I am looking forward to hearing from you on this matter.
