Domestic violence carries Rp 500m fine
JAKARTA: The government submitted on Tuesday a bill on the protection of victims of domestic violence, which aims to provide greater protection for women, amid increasing cases of abuse.
Under the bill, a person who is found guilty of sexual abuse that results in a physical injury may be sentenced to a prison term of between five years and 20 years, or a fine of between Rp 25 million (US$2,700) and Rp 500 million.
State Minister for Women's Empowerment Sri Redjeki Soemaryoto said the new bill replaced the bill on domestic violence, which had been submitted to lawmakers last year. -- JP
