Domestic spat nearly costs life

JAKARTA: A teenager was seriously wounded on Thursday when he smashed a window with his hand in anger after his father assaulted his mother.

A witness said on Thursday that Yunus, 45, an unemployed father of 12 who lives in Pasar Manggis, South Jakarta, beat his wife, Menah, 40, because she did not serve him lunch.

"He was angry when he realized that all his children got their meals but he didn't," he said.

Upon seeing his father beating his mother, Fitri, 18, the fifth son, smashed a window and cut his wrist in the process.

The artery in his wrist was almost severed. He was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, where he regained consciousness. --JP
