Domestic helper drowned

JAKARTA (JP): North Jakarta police are still investigating the death of a domestic helper, who is said to have been drowned on Sunday while trying to swim in the swimming pool of the house while her employers were out.

Witness Eti Kusniati told the police that Nur Cholifah, 19, her fellow domestic helper at the house on Jl. Danau Indah Barat in Sunter Jaya, was trying to swim in the pool at about 7 p.m.

Another helper, Toyibah, was asked by Nur to guard the front door to anticipate the sudden arrival of their employers.

"Nur was afraid if our employers came home they'd be mad at her," Eti was quoted by a police report as saying. Eti said she was in a bathroom at the time.

About half an hour later, Toyibah went to see Nur at the pool but found the latter already dead.

Nur was wearing a bra and underwear at the time, she recalled.

Toyibah immediately ran to the house's security guard and they contacted the police. Their employers arrived one hour after the incident.

According to Eti, Nur had never been swimming before and she suspected that Nur could not swim. (08)
