Dollar trades weaker

LONDON (UPI): The U.S. dollar traded lower across Europe yesterday morning, as a prolonged result of the previous day's sell-off and increased buying interest in the German mark.

In London, the U.S. currency was quoted at 1.5245 marks, down on the previous finish of 1.5345. Against the Japanese yen, the greenback changed hands at 112.82 yen from the previous finish of 112.90.

The British pound was being quoted at 2.4360 German marks from its previous finish of 2.4489 marks. The pound opened at US$1.5975, up from the previous $1.5959.

In Frankfurt, the dollar rate was unobtainable due to technical problems.

In Paris, the dollar opened at 5.1630 French francs, down from the previous close of 5.1845.

In Brussels, the dollar opened at 31.38 Belgian francs, down from 31.61.

In Milan, the dollar opened at 1,528.50 Italian lira, down from the previous close of 1,531.23.

In Singapore, the dollar closed at S$1.4152, up from the previous close at S$1.4145.

In Hong Kong, the dollar closed unchanged at HK$7.7325.

Gold opened at US$384.25 an ounce in Zurich, up from the previous close at $383.45, while in London it opened unchanged at $383.50.
