Dollar gains ground

LONDON (UPI): The U.S. dollar was trading higher across Europe yesterday morning in technical-dominated trading.

In London, the U.S. currency was quoted at 1.5280 German marks, up on the previous finish of 1.5275. The dollar traded at 111.38 Japanese yen from the previous finish of 111.33.

Sterling was being quoted at 2.3887 German marks from its previous finish of 2.3881 marks. The pound opened at US$1.5633, up from the previous close of $1.5631.

In Frankfurt, the dollar opened at 1.5283 German marks, up from the previous close of 1.5253.

In Paris, the dollar opened at 5.1670 French francs, up from the previous close of 5.1585.

In Brussels, the dollar opened at 31.48 Belgian francs, up from the previous close of 31.44.

In Tokyo, the dollar closed at 111.43 Japanese yen, up from the previous close of 111.08.

In Singapore, the dollar closed at S$1.4090, up from the previous close at 1.4089.

In Hong Kong, the dollar closed at HK$7.7325, unchanged from the previous close.

Gold opened at US$381.00 an ounce in Zurich, down from the previous close at $381.25, while in London it started trading at $381.00, unchanged from the previous close. In Hong Kong, gold closed at $381.05, unchanged from the previous close.
