Dollar down against European currencies
LONDON (UPI): The dollar was lower against the major European currencies yesterday, trading in narrow ranges ahead of the release of U.S consumer price and retail sales figures for March.
In Frankfurt, the dollar opened at 1.7185, unchanged from the previous close.
In Zurich, the dollar opened at 1.4450 Swiss francs, down from the previous close at 1.4500.
In London, the pound opened at US$1.4741, down from the previous close of $1.4755.
In Brussels, the dollar opened at 35.29 Belgian francs, down from the previous close at 35.37.
In Paris, the dollar opened at 5.8717 French francs, down from the previous close at 5.8787.
In Milan, in unofficial dealing, the dollar opened at 1,633.50 lira, down from the previous close of 1,638.95.
In Tokyo, the dollar closed at 103.65 yen, up from 103.52 at the previous close.
In Singapore, the dollar closed at S$1.5640, up from the previous close at S$1.5635.
In Hong Kong, the dollar closed at HK$7.7269, up from the previous close at HK$7.7263.
Gold opened at $379.25 in Zurich, up from $378.00 at the previous close, while in London it opened at $379.00, up from the previous close at $378.25. It closed at HK$$379.25 in Hong Kong, down from the previous close at HK$$379.35.
Silver opened in Zurich at $5.34, up from the previous close at $5.28, and in London it opened at $5.33, up from the previous close at $5.31.
