Dodi to be quizzed over Beddu case

JAKARTA: National Police Headquarters is to question suspect Raden Dodi Sumadi for allegedly embezzling tens of billions rupiah that were to be used to help former head of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) Beddu Amang escape prosecution.

National Police director of general crimes Brig. Gen. Aryanto Sutadi said on Wednesday that Beddu had lodged a complaint against Dodi, who was to act as a middleman, for breach of promise.

Dodi was transferred from the custody of the Jakarta Police to National Police Headquarters after Beddu's complaint on Wednesday.

Beddu was sentenced to a two-year jail term last November for his role in a 1995 land scam that resulted in Rp 95.4 billion in state losses.

Dodi was said have told Beddu in August 2000 that he was a close friend of then attorney general Marzuki Darusman.

Another complaint against the Dodi has been filed by Hutomo Mandala Putra, the youngest son of former president Soeharto, who accused Dodi of absconding with Rp 15 billion that was supposed to have been given to former president Abdurrahman Wahid in exchange for a pardon.

Dodi was captured last January after several months in hiding. -- JP
