Documentary films at French Center

JAKARTA (JP): The French Cultural Center on Jl. Salemba Raya,
Central Jakarta, is screening 20 documentaries including French
and Indonesian works.

The event which will run from Feb. 17 to March 1 is to include
a meeting between audiences and director Garin Nugroho on Feb. 27
at 5 p.m.

Garin's film is about street children in Yogyakarta. It is
titled Dongeng Kancil tentang Kemerdekaan (A Mouse deer's story
about Independence), and will be screened six times, the first on
Feb. 18.

A work by Dutch filmmaker, Vincent Monnikendam, entitled
Chronique Coloniale, shows scenes from Indonesia under Dutch
rule, without text or commentary, according to CCF's program.

Other films include one on the first election after
independence in South Africa, and another is on children with
