* Local people and authorities are proud to use the official
slogan of "Surabaya, Kota Indramardi", which means an integrated
industrial, trade, maritime and educational city.

* The grave of Brigadier A.W.S. Mallaby, whose death sparked the
violent Nov. 10, 1945, attack on Surabaya by the Allied Forces,
is located in the Menteng Pulo cemetery in Jakarta.

* Surabaya is home to 9,230 large and medium-sized factories.

* Employees of Tanjung Perak International Container Port handle
over 328,000 TEU container units per year, which is the
equivalent of over 920 containers per day.

* The Surabaya Stock Exchange (SSX) recorded a turnover of Rp 2.7
trillion in traded stocks and Rp 18.83 trillion in traded bonds
last year.

* The city is home to various naval and maritime facilities, such
as the Indonesian Navy base in Ujung and the state-owned

number of overseas educational agencies try to attract students.
