Do you have an appointment?
JAKARTA: Due to the tight schedule during the ten-day Annual Session, Assembly deputy speakers require rallying students or activists to register for an appointment. Registration is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
According to the schedule, Cholil Bisri of the Nation Awakening Party (PKB) is slated to meet protesters on Sunday, while Jusuf Amir Feisal of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) is available on Monday.
Deputy speaker of the Indonesian Military/National Police faction Lt. Gen. Agus Widjojo will make time on Tuesday, while Nazri Adlani of the Reform faction will close the sessions for listening to the people's aspirations on Wednesday.
The security chief in charge of the sessions, Adj. Sr. Comr. M. Chairul N.A., said only 15 people from each of the 12 delegations already registered with the police would be allowed to hold a dialog with the Assembly leaders.
Meanwhile, two groups, the Struggle for the Poor Front (FPRM) and the students Front Kota, held peaceful rallies outside the venue on Thursday.
FPRM demanded legislators pay more attention to the poor, while Front Kota insisted that President Megawati Soekarnoputri and Vice President Hamzah Haz step down for failing to handle the country's problems. The groups dispersed after 4 p.m.
Only around 20 policemen and six officers were on guard during the rallies. -- JP
