DLLAJ rebukes 25 taxi firms

JAKARTA (JP): The City Land Traffic Transportation Agency (DLLAJ) will issue a third warning to 23 taxi companies and a second warning to another two firms for failing to renew and operate their fleets.

DLLAJ chief Buyung Atang said on Friday that the two companies facing a second warning had promised to operate a total of 1,200 taxis.

"If they cannot live up to the terms of the licenses granted by the city administration, we will pass them on to other companies," Buyung told Antara.

No deadline was set for the companies to fulfill the requirement.

As for the 23 firms, Buyung said around 40 percent of the 23,000 cabs belonging to them had gradually been grounded due to a lack of spare parts following the economic crisis in 1997.

"It will be the governor who will decide whether to revoke their licenses or look for other firms to take them over," Buyung said. (amd)
