District head dies in road accident
JAKARTA: Head of Kebayoran Baru district in South Jakarta Syarifudin Robbani was killed in a traffic accident early on Saturday morning after leading a raid against sex workers.
The accident happened when the car that Syarifudin was in collided with a truck on the KM 24 section of the Sedyatmo toll road. Syarifudin died at the scene, while Edison, the driver of the car and Syarifudin's colleague, died at the Atma Jaya Hospital in Pluit, North Jakarta.
"The car that Syarifudin's Kijang hit sped away and police are still trying to identify it," said traffic police officer Brig. Anwar.
Syarifudin suffered serious injuries to his head, face and limbs.
Deputy head of Kebayoran Baru district Edy Mulya confirmed that Syarifudin had overseen the raid, which resulted in the arrests of nine sex workers from 11 p.m. on Friday to 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Edy, however, did not link the raid with the accident on the North Jakarta toll road. --JP
