Display woes buyers with dream-cars

The green park in front of the JW Marriott Hotel in Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta, became the center of attraction on Thursday when a huge white tent was pitched. Inside, 14 cars produced by DaimlerChrysler were displayed.

Six cars -- the Mercedes-Benz S600L, C240ELG, A140 and ML270, Jeep's Grand Cherokee Limited and Chrysler's PT Cruiser -- were displayed at the tent's entrance.

Another eight cars -- the Mercedes-Benz Vaneo 1.6L, E320ELG, C200K, E260ELG, C240T, SL500, CLK240 and Jeep Cherokee 3.7L (popularly known as Liberty) -- were displayed inside.

These eight cars will be available for lovers of luxury cars after the conclusion of the DaimlerChrysler Auto Festival, which opened on Thursday and runs until Sunday.

Prices of the cars range from Rp 247.17 million (US$27,403) for the A140 to Rp 275 million for the S600L automatic.

PT DaimlerChrysler Distribution Indonesia deputy director of sales, marketing and communication Siegfried Schmidt said that the auto festival was expected to enable the three lines of DaimlerChrysler -- Mercedes-Benz, Jeep and Chrysler -- to be provided to customers.

The entrance fee of Rp 10,000 will be matched by the company and handed over to orphanages in the Greater Jakarta area during the closing ceremony, which starts at 6 p.m on Sunday.
