Displaced Acehnese move southward

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Hundreds of residents of Aceh Timur regency, displaced by the armed conflicts, have migrated southward to the neighboring province of North Sumatra, Antara said on Wednesday.

"They decided to move to North Sumatra because of security concerns," O.K. Ibrahim, a local public figure, told the news agency.

The migration had started several months ago, he said.

The last batch of refugees to head south included children and women, mostly from the Tualangcut village, he added. (04)
