Discotheque closed down

YOGYAKARTA: The authorities closed down the Papillon Discotheque on Monday for operating without a permit.

Spokesman of the Yogyakarta administration, Boedhi Prasetyo, was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying that the manager had been given ample warnings and ordered to close the business down by themselves.

Only after the manager failed to respond did the authorities officially close the discotheque, Boedhi said.

Papillon manager Agus Indriarto protested the closure of the discotheque, saying that the authorities should have waited until he could appeal the order in court.

"I'm just a worker here, but the owner, Gusti Ambarkusuma, will never accept it," he said.

A number of local Moslem leaders supported Mayor R. Widagdo's decision to close down the discotheque. (swe)
