Disappointed by visa on arrival

We are disappointed and extremely alarmed about the future of tourism on the island of Lombok following the implementation of the new visa-on-arrival policy for the nationals of 21 countries. Lombok has once again been overlooked and is not included as an Indonesian International Gateway where the new policy of visa on arrival is offered. While we understand "why" the new visa on arrival is being implemented in Indonesia, we do not know "why" Lombok has been completely omitted from the ports of entry where a visa on arrival can be obtained.

When international hotel groups decided to build better facilities on this island, the action plan for growth in the tourism sector for Lombok was clear and promising. Over the years tourism professionals have been patient, understanding and instrumental in helping the tourism sector recover from the many obstacles encountered. Our employees have also been patient and helpful in trying to restore the image of Lombok as an island where tourists and the benefits they given to our economy are welcomed.

Visiting the initial area of Lombok where tourism was once the focus, it is easy to see that this important focus is now clouded and is in great danger. The many closed down hotels (Hilberon, Putri Bunga, etc.), burned out and unrestored buildings in Senggigi's Art Market, only further add to the disappointment of tourists and hotel workers who are together waiting for action from the island's leaders.
