Disabled students

From Republika

In reply to Yendi Sufyandi's letter to Republika of Aug. 13 (published in The Jakarta Post on Aug. 15) on "Gadjah Mada University discriminates against the disabled", we would like to give the following response:

1. We thank Mr. Yendi Sufyandi for his attention in particular to the subject of student admissions.

2. The requirements concerning disabilities for the admission of new students are not only applied at Gadjah Mada University but also at 40 other state, higher institutes of education in Indonesia.

3. In applying the requirements we always look into each individual case and endeavor to find the best solution for all parties.

4. We have quite a few disabled students and graduates.

5. Mr. Yendi Sufyandi, now following a PhD program at Gadjah Mada University, is hereby invited to inquire with the program director of Post-Graduate Studies in case he needs further explanation.
