Direct injection into Audi

INGOLSTADT: Audi has developed the first direct-injection diesel engine for luxury cars. It will be available in the company's A8 in Europe from September.

Diesel cars are popular in Europe, where diesel undercuts petrol in price.

Audi's new engine is a 2.5-liter V6 turbo unit. Fuel efficiency is said to be 30 percent better than a similarly equipped petrol Audi.

Audi claims its direct-injection diesel is quieter than conventional diesels.
