Dimyati to run for presidency
JAKARTA: The Indonesia Our Homeland Party (PITA) has nominated its chairman Dimyati Hartonoas as its presidential candidate to contest in the 2004 elections.
The nomination was announced on Wednesday after taking into account the aspirations of the party's provincial and regental branches throughout the country.
Dimyati is a former legislator of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) who quit the party due to disappointment over party chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri.
PITA added that there had not been signs of economic recovery in the past years despite succession in national leadership.
Although some parties have announced their presidential candidates, it is not clear whether all parties will be allowed to nominate their candidates.
Legislators are now discussing the requirements to nominate a presidential candidate. - JP
