Dili statue listed as record

SEMARANG: The giant Christ the King statue in Dili, East Timor, will be listed at the Indonesian Record Museum.

Museum chairman, Jaya Suprana, said yesterday he would send a team to collect detailed information on the 27-meter-tall statue dedicated by President Soeharto recently.

The Rp 7.2 billion (US$3 million) statue is the world's second largest.

In addition to the statue, the museum will soon include Coordinating Minister for Production and Distribution Hartarto as the Indonesian holding the most honorary doctorate degrees, namely four.

It also plans to list a 117-long, 6.3-meter-wide tie as Indonesia's largest. The tie, designed by Nasrudin Daud and taking 30 craftsmen to make, was draped on a Jakarta sky scrapper earlier this month.
