Digital telephone system in E. Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): The East Jakarta branch of the state-owned telecommunication provider PT Telkom will change the central automatic telephone system of its exchange in Tebet, South Jakarta, from analog technology to digital technology.

The East Jakarta Telkom branch head, Rizal Saat, said yesterday the change over would start at 12 p.m tomorrow and would not disrupt services.

"But I hope that customers who have telephone numbers starting with 828 and 829 will reduce their telephone activities. If there are any disruptions, please call 117 or visit the Tebet office on Jl. Casablanca, in South Jakarta," Rizal said.

He also announced that some telephone installments have been postponed until the repairs at Kranji in Bekasi is done. The repairs are expected to be completed this month, he added. (jun)
