Digital phones in West Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): The West Jakarta office of state-owned telecommunications company PT Telkom is to start operating an automatic digital telephone exchange on Jl. Gatot Subroto tomorrow, an official said yesterday.

Kiskenda Suriahardja, the office manager, said that the new system, with a capacity of 5,000 lines, was to replace the old analog system.

He said that the digital system would cover customers whose numbers started with the numbers 525.

"The operation of the new system is made to meet rising demands for additional features such as call waiting, follow me/call forwarding, three party/call conferencing and hunting," he said.

This demand could not be met using the analog system, he said. The switch from the old to the new system would affect the customers' phones only for a few minutes.

"Those whose telephones will be out of order are invited to call the office's command post on 520-0101," he said. (04)
