Diarrhea kills one in Kupang

MAUMERE, East Nusa Tenggara: Diarrhea has affected 69 people in Takari village, near the provincial capital of Kupang, in the past month. One of them has died.

Head of the Kupang health office Herman Man told The Jakarta Post on Monday the fatal victim was aged 72.

To prevent more people from being affected by the condition, the health office has formed a medical team under the authority of the Kupang district chief. The team will target five villages in the district.

Apart from providing first aid, the team also raise people's awareness of the disease. "We ask people to boil drinking water and keep their houses and gardens clean," Herman said. (yac)
