Diamond design competition
JAKARTA (JP): De Beers, the world's largest diamond mining company, is holding a biennial competition to help develop less conservative and stagnant diamond jewelry design.
The competition is open to the public free of charge. Each participant can only send one design, the De Beers Diamond Information Center (DIC) said in a statement on Thursday.
Designs, which should be drawn on 10x13cm paper and mounted on a 25x35cm mattboard, should be sent to the DIC office at Jl. Proklamasi No. 46, Central Jakarta, by Jan. 15, 1999. Entries can be obtained at the DIC office from Oct. 11.
Regional (Asia Pacific) judging to select the finalists will be held in mid February, 1999. The board of judges will choose up to 30 winners from the finalists at the end of February. An awards presentation to the winners will take place in Paris in January, 2000.
For those interested in participating in the competition, De Beers DIC will conduct a free workshop on Oct. 10 at the Shangri- La Hotel.
Workshop registrations can be made through the DIC office or by calling 3100367 by Oct. 4. (hhr)
