Dialog on Irian culture

JAKARTA (JP): A dialog on Irian culture, entitled Dialog Seni Budaya Irian '95 is slated to take place in Ancol, North Jakarta on Friday.

The dialog, which is open to the public, is meant to inform the people more about Irian Jaya and its 250 tribes.

The event will include discussions on arts and culture, and dance performances.

A discussion and review of the book Kisah Nyata di Perbatasan (True Story at the Border) will feature Maj. Gen (ret) Samsudin as a speaker. Barnabas Suebu, former Irian Jaya governor, will be the moderator.

Psychologist Tika Bisono, artist Christine Hakim and Dea Sudarman of the Sejati Foundation will be the moderators for another discussion on The Opportunity of Irian Culture in Enriching the National Culture. The speakers will be artists of the Gabungan Artis Nasional.

Several dances like Yospan, a war dance and peace dance will also be performed at the event. The steering committee says the main attraction will be the distinctive Amungme dance and exclusive Komoro carving display. (sur)
