Dialog in art summit

JAKARTA (JP): The second art summit is not only about dance, music and theater performances. It also includes a two-day dialog to update participants about current developments and trends in the art world.

Organized by the art summit committee, the dialog, which is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at the Hotel Alia on Jl. Cikini Raya, Central Jakarta, will feature internationally renowned figures discussing the problems of multiculturalism and exploration of local sources.

Scheduled to be opened by Minister of Education and Culture Juwono Sudarsono, the first day's speakers will include composer Alvin Lucier of the Wesleyan University, Connecticut,U.S.A.; Japanese expert on music Yuji Takahashi; Sal Murgianto of the Jakarta Art Institute on dance; art critic Rustom Barrucha from India; Janet Lansdale from the University of Surrey, England; and Japanese choreographer and dancer Yukio Waguri.

On the second day the dialog will feature music scholar Dieter Mack; Saini KM from the Ministry of Education and Culture; Chinese Opera Institute director Chua Soo Pong; Sal Murgianto and Bakdi Sumanto of the Yogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada University.
