'Dewa Ruci' sets sail for U.S.

SURABAYA: Seventy-three Navy cadets will head for the United States aboard training ship KRI Dewa Ruci on Sunday.

This year's mandatory across-the-world sail will last five months.

"The cadets will stage, among other things, Indonesian traditional art performances, Rampak Gendang (traditional drum ensemble) and Badindin dance, both from West Sumatra," Navy Academy spokeswoman Capt. Ririn Susilowati told Antara on Wednesday.

Apart from the American trip, Dewa Ruci will participate in the world sailing festival to be held in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the state of California and the Gold Rush Race from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Commander Darwanto has been named the captain of the tall ship.
