Developer defies warnings
BEKASI (JP): The Bekasi administration has yet to take action against PT Hasanah Damai Putra, the developer of a market which has been operating illegally for one year.
The company also built a tennis court without a building permit in the Harapan Indah housing complex in West Bekasi.
Sources at the Bekasi Public Works Office and City Planning Office said both offices have repeatedly warned the developer, but it simply ignored the warnings.
The kiosks at the market are still operating despite the warnings, the sources said.
On Sept. 8 the City Planning board issued its latest warning, stating that it would demolish the market if the developer failed to produce a legal building permit within a week. But no action has as yet been taken.
The head of the City Planning Board, Tjahyo Susanto could not be reached for comment.
The Bekasi City Council chairman Abdul Manan said the city administration should act immediately and raze the market.
"The city administration should not hesitate in demolishing the market as it is obvious the developer has breached the law," Abdul Manan told The Jakarta Post. (12/bas)
