Detective sued over car sale

JAKARTA (JP): A city resident lodged a complaint against a city police detective on Friday over a fraudulent car transaction in which she lost Rp 65 million (US$6,500).

A police source said Nancy Widjanarko, 56, a resident of Jl. Raya Kayu Mas in Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta, had filed the complaint against First. Insp. Manalu of the automobile theft division of the city police detectives unit and his informants Hikam, Ukem alias Dody and Supriyanto.

"She said that the men had made her pay Rp 65 million, for a Nissan Terrano grey metallic jeep with registration number B 1708 HB, which was police evidence... it was a stolen car. Worse, they took it back from her, after she paid the money."

According to the police report, Manalu and his friends offered Nancy the car on Jan. 20 last year for Rp 65 million on condition that she first made a down payment of Rp 40 million.

Separately, Manalu's superior, city police detectives chief for automobile theft crimes, Comr. Atrial, told reporters on Friday that he could not make any comments, except that "Nancy herself is a dealer of hot cars." (ylt)
