Detainee escapes women's jail

BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: A woman under detention in a women's correctional institution escaped after fooling the guards by pretending to be a visitor at the jail.

The 45-year woman, identified only as Wer, was put in the care of the Metro Lampung Tengah correctional facility while police were preparing a case against her. She is accused of abducting her neighbor's nine-year old child last month, Antara reported.

The woman fled during visiting hours on Thursday.

She passed the first gate by convincing the guards that she needed to change her rice ration at the kitchen because it was rancid. This allowed her to mingle with visitors. Then she shielded her face with a headdress and pretended to be a visitor leaving the grounds when she passed the guards at the second gate.

A search was launched after the correctional facility discovered that she was missing. (emb)
