Deputy nomination draws fire
SEMARANG: Members of the Central Java Legislative Council are urging Governor Soewardi to be objective in nominating a new deputy, a position which has been vacant since the recent death of Suyanto.
The councilors detected that some of the names being nominated by the governor were his "old buddies" who did not necessarily qualify for the job.
The governor has the right to nominate the candidates with endorsement from the council but the final say is made by Minister of Home Affairs Moch. Yogie S.M. in Jakarta.
Three candidates are widely rumored to have already been selected. They are Surakarta Mayor Hartomo, Wonogiri Regent Oemarsono and Semarang Mayor Soetrisno Soeharto.
Many councilors said they objected to the nomination of Hartomo and Oemarsono because they did not qualify for the job. (har/emb)
