Deputy mayor reported for fraud

BOGOR: A non-governmental organization reported on Wednesday
newly elected Bogor deputy mayor Mochamad Sahid to the police for
submitting a fake high school diploma to run in the mayoral
election.

Chairman of the Bogor chapter of the Movement Against
Narcotics and Brawls (Gepenta) Rocky F Subun said Sahid submitted
diploma No. 01.OB/P403006464, issued in 1997 for student ID
number 3301851 by the Jakarta education agency, as his.

"But the head of secondary and tertiary education at the
agency, Thahir Husein, has confirmed that the diploma was issued
for someone with the initials ZH who resides in Bekasi, and that
the agency had never issued a high school diploma for Sahid."

During the election process, Sahid claimed he had graduated
from a Jakarta high school on April 3, 1997. However, he was not
able to present the original diploma at that time.

Bogor Police chief of detectives Adj. Comr. Yayan Sofyan said
the police would first check the report with the Jakarta
education agency and the election committee. -- JP
