Depok may close factories, hospital

DEPOK: The Depok municipal administration has threatened to close down three factories and one hospital for violating Bylaw No. 5/2003 on liquid industrial waste treatment.

The four have allegedly failed to process their waste and so have polluted and endangered the surrounding environment.

"The three factories and the hospital have not processed their waste dumping permits. The municipal environment agency sent warning letters twice, but has received no response," said head of the agency, Rahmad Subagyo, on Wednesday.

"We will wait for several days. If there is still no response, we will close down the four."

The agency has warned a total of 21 companies in the last year. Excluding the four in question, the remaining 17 companies have obtained their waste dumping permits. -- JP
