Dentist, nurse killed in car-train crash
SEMARANG: An executive train hit a sedan on the Brotojoyo railway crossing in Semarang, Central Java, on Monday, killing a dentist and a nurse.
The crash, which occurred at around 12 a.m., slightly injured Dono Handayanto, the driver of the car with plate number B 2963 NR.
Dentist Diah Pertiwi, 43, and the nurse Ana Hestiastuti, 30, were killed as their sedan forced its way through the crossing, even though the gate was closing, witnesses said.
The car was hampered by a pedicab peddling in front of it. The sedan tried to cross the track, but failed and the crash was then unavoidable.
The Argo Muria train was traveling from Semarang to Jakarta. --JP
