Dengue kills four in Jambi

JAMBI, Jambi: At least four people in Jambi city have died of dengue fever since May, raising concern among the public.

The four died because they did not receive medical attention in time, said an official at the Jambi Health Office.

"All of the victims were below the age of 10," said Erwita on Saturday.

She said bad sanitation was to blame for the dengue outbreak, adding that 12 people had been admitted to the hospital each month since May with dengue fever.

In order to prevent the dengue outbreak from spreading, the government has deployed workers to help clean up neighborhoods. Government officials will also encourage residents to take their children to the hospital immediately if they display any of the symptoms of dengue fever, such as red spots on their skin. -- JP
