Dengue fever claims 11 lives

JAMBI, Jambi: The Jambi Health Office head, Hamid Syam, cautioned the public on Wednesday over the outbreak of dengue fever in the province, which has now claimed 11 lives.

Hamid predicted that the five-year cycle of dengue fever epidemics would occur this year, after 170 cases were detected in the province since January of this year, higher than the figure for the same period last year.

No one died from dengue fever last year.

The disease appears during the rainy season and is caused by dengue hemorrhagic fever virus transmitted by the Aedes Aegepty mosquito. --Antara
