Dengue attacks nearly 100 in Makassar

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Makassar mayor H.B. Amiruddin Maula instructed on Thursday the local health office to take immediate measures to control the spread of dengue fever across the city.

Speaking while visiting the people infected by the disease, he said that the office should cooperate with village and subdistrict heads to caution the community over the outbreak of the disease.

The virus which is carried by day-biting mosquitoes known biologically as the Aedes aegepty has infected at least 91 people this month, claiming one life. Most of the victims are residents of Biringkanaya subdistrict.

Amiruddin said that the provision of anti-dengue spraying at residential areas and cleaning up water containers would prevent the mosquitoes from multiplying. --Antara
