Demonstration takes over contest

JAKARTA (JP): Ten bands from different senior high schools in five cities will compete in a music competition at Bengkel Nightpark discotheque in South Jakarta on Sunday afternoon.

The theme of the competition is demonstration.

The organizers said on Wednesday the 10 finalists were selected from cassette recordings sent in by 90 senior high school bands, consisting of 49 bands from Jakarta, 18 from Surabaya and the remaining 23 from Bandung and Yogyakarta.

The selected bands to perform in the Tawuran Music Levi's competition are Insting band of SMU 1, Bandung; Negeri Ajaib band of SMU 6, Semarang; Keong Smepif band of Sekolah Menengah Musik, Yogyakarta; Benalu band of SMU Pirngadi, Surabaya; Lighter band of SMU Kertajaya, Surabaya; Biru Muda band of SMU Pangudi Luhur, Jakarta; Swiss Band of SMU 1 Cimanggis, Jakarta; Awan band of SMU 6, Jakarta; Slipery band of SMU Lab School, Jakarta; and Wage Rudolf Supratman band of SMU Islam Harapan Ibu, Jakarta.

Most of the finalists are bands from state schools. (bsr)
