Demand for judicial review rejected
JAKARTA: Constitutional Court chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie announced on Tuesday that his office could not fulfill a request to review Law No. 14/1985 on the Supreme Court.
Jimly said the court could only review laws and legislations enacted after 1999, in accordance with the first constitutional amendment, which ordered the formation of the court.
The court also rejected a request to review the verification of political parties conducted by the ministry of justice and human rights, which resulted in the disqualification of the Indonesian National Unity Party (PNI).
"That is not part of the authority of the Constitutional Court," Jimly said.
Since its establishment in August, the court had received 23 requests from the public for the judicial review of laws and legislations. Four of the motions had been settled. -- JP
