Delegation seeks Aceh's partition

JAKARTA: A delegation of people living in Aceh are seeking
support from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)
for the partition of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam into three
provinces.

They met with House of Representatives Deputy Speaker
Soetardjo Soerjogoeritno from the PDI-P on Friday to seek
political support for the division of Aceh into three provinces,
with the new provinces being Aceh Leuser Antara and Aceh Barat
Selatan.

The members of the delegation said they would hold an event in
Jakarta on Sunday to push for the establishment of the new
provinces. Any agreement in this regard, however, will be
contentious given the recent peace agreement between the
government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM). --JP
