JAKARTA (JP): International Master (IM) Dede Liu won the one-
day rapid chess Enerpac Fair Play tournament at the Utut Adianto
chess school in Bekasi on Saturday.
Dede defeated Fide Master Kasmiran and collected 5 Victory
Points (VPs). IM Danny Kuswanto also collected 5 VPs after
beating Fide Master Awam Wahono.
Dede won the tournament because his progressive scoring of 17
was better than Danny's 16.
Dede received Rp 400,000 and Danny got Rp 300,000.
Third to fifth places went to Awam, FM Hamdani Rudin and Grand
Master Adriansyah. They each scored 4.5 VPs. Awam received Rp
200,000, while Hamdani and Adriansyah each got Rp 100,000.
In the sixth to 10th places were Kasmiran, Asrul Aray, IM
Cerdas Barus, National Master (NM) Cecep Kosasih and NM Sugeng
Prayitno. They each collected 4 VPs and took home Rp 100,000.
The tournament was participated in by 20 players, divided into
Group A and Group B. Group A included players above the national
elo rating of 2200, while Group B included those below it.
In rapid chess, each player is only given 25 minutes to play.
A player who collects 5 VP and has better progressive scorings
automatically becomes the winner.
A total cash prize of Rp 2 million was offered for the rapid
chess tournament.
Solihin Daud of the Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi)
provided the Rp 2 million. He was surprised that the contestants
played very sportingly.
"I got the idea of holding a rapid chess tournament after I
held talks with Eka Putra Wirya, also from Percasi. He agreed to
the idea and hoped that such a tournament could be held
regularly," Solihin said. (lnt)
