Decree on KJN team issued

JAKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has issued a
decree for the setting up of a team to select the members of the
National Judicial Commission, an official said on Tuesday.

Zulkarnaen Yunus, the director general of general legal
administration at the justice ministry, said he has obtained a
copy of the decree, which is styled Presidential Decree No.
3/2005.

Under the decree, which was signed on Jan. 17, the selection
team will consist of 22 members chaired by Abdulgani Abdullah,
the justice ministry's director general of legislation.

The establishment of the judicial commission is mandated by
law as part of the effort to ensure impartiality and
professionalism on the part of the courts. The commission should
have been set up a year ago, but its establishment was delay for
unexplained reasons. --Antara
