Debate winners head to KL

JAKARTA: British Airways will fly winners of the 1998
Indonesian Varsities English Debate to the ASEAN Inter-
Universities Debating Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,
Monday.

British Embassy Charge d'Affaires Quinton Quayle hosted a
party on Thursday for the winners. The acting British Airways
country manager, Jonathan Cowley, presented tickets to team
members Achmad Nurhoeri, Aryanti R., Permata Harahap and coach
Rully Manurung.

The Indonesian debate contest was held by the University of
Indonesia's Debating Society, with Quayle part of the panel of
judges for the final round of the competition on Aug. 3.

Quayle said he was impressed by the quality of the debate
because it was all conducted in high standard English. (emf)
